30th Annual Meeting of TFA - September 23-25, 2010 - Omaha, Nebraska
Plans for this year's 30th Reunion Celebration are well underway. This year, rather than returning to the Salem, Massachusetts area for this milestone meeting, we will be meeting in Omaha, Nebraska. Many descendants of William and Joanna Towne migrated West, so this will be a great opportunity to visit a part of the country many of our ancestors likely passed through on their journeys. It will also allow "cousins" from the midwest who have been unable to attend East Coast meetings to join us for this celebration.
Anita Carson, this year's chairperson, is developing a great program which will keep us busy! It is certain to be a meeting to remember. A note from Anita:
I am excited to be hosting the event this year. I have been a member of TFA since 1982 and am a descendant of William & Joanna's son, Jacob.
One of the meeting sessions will be "Meet the Genealogists" so bring any questions or roadblocks you may have and they will try to help you find the answers. Also, in 2010, we will have a Spouses Tour for those spouses who do not care to sit in on a meeting.
Mark your calendars and plan for September 23-25, 2010 and plan to come to Omaha!
Check back here periodically for updates and read details as they are arranged in About Towne.
Did your ancestor move West? Do you have a story about the trip or where they settled? We'd love to hear about it. Send it to us and we'll add it here! Send to

Aanother successful TFA Regional Meeting in Germantown, TN August 14, 2010

Write March 19, 2011 on your calendar!!!
We had another really nice get together. We got to meet another cousin, talked about our non-New England migration paths, discussed DNA, the Omaha TFA meeting, the possible England trip, research questions, software, book publishing and talked about topics for our future meetings. We followed each of our lines through the TFA database, making changes in spelling and adding death dates for our parents and grandparents (changes for which we had documentation). We noted any inconsistencies in our family's data contained in the national database and will forward these on to National TFA. The national database can be found on the TFA website (link below), with TFA members having access to 9 generations and non-TFA members able to see 4 generations. We were given access to the entire database (including current generations) for our meeting, so we could add or edit entries for those attending our meeting. Hopefully, we'll continue to do this at subsequent meetings too.
We've scheduled our next TFA Regional Meeting for March 19, 2011. We hope this gives each of you enough time to write us into your schedule. We plan to meet at the same place (the Tennessee Genealogical Society Room in the Regional History and Genealogy Center Library in Germantown TN). We'll meet from 10AM to around 3 (the library closes at 4), with a break for lunch.
If you have Tennessee connections, the Tennessee Genealogical Society has placed their collection of quarterly publications (Ansearchin' News) online. These started in 1954.

(You can access Ansearchin' News through a link in the left column of their site)
You can check to see if the library has a specific book at that location by clicking on the LIBRARY link in the left column of their site and maybe schedule a research trip to use their resources.
If you're looking for information on genealogy software or helpful computer applications, click on the LET'S DISCUSS IT link in the left column of their site.
I really enjoyed seeing each of our Towne cousins again and really enjoyed meeting our first time cousin attendees. I hope to meet more of you at our March get together. If any of you have specific requests or topic suggestions for the next meeting, please email those early.
