Sat July 31 NOTE FROM WEBMASTER: 9 GEN TREE has been updated with several months worth of additions and corrections. Enjoy!
The TOWNE FAMILY ASSOCIATION, INC. is a not-for-profit educational genealogical organization founded in 1980. Members are the descendants of William and Joanna (Blessing) Towne who came to America from Great Yarmouth, England and settled in Salem, MA about 1635. The couple had eight children, three of whom, Rebecca Nurse, Mary Estey, and Sarah Cloyce, were caught up in the Witchcraft Hysteria in Salem in 1692. Rebecca and Mary were hanged. TFA includes descendants of both the male and female lines of the Towne, Nurse, Estey, Cloyce and associated families.
As President of Towne Family Association, Inc., I would like to welcome you to our new web page. Please explore it and send us your feedback. It is a work in progress and we welcome all ideas to make this a valuable resource for all of our members. We hope you will contribute articles and pictures to the site. If you would like to become involved in maintaining the site, please let us know. I am sure our webmaster, Margaret Press, would welcome your help! If you are not yet a member, it's easy to join by clicking "Join TFA". For $15.00 per year, you will have access to our 9 generation online database and will receive 4 issues of our outstanding newsletter, About Towne.
A word about our database. It has been developed over the past 29 years based on contributions of lineages from members. Not all of these lineages included source information and as such are presented as unverified. They should be considered as providing direction for you as you develop your own research, but, unless the data is supported by a recognized source, it should not be considered to be definitive. We will be working to verify our data, but this will be a long term project. To help with this, please send us any corrections or changes you find in your own line and please be sure to include sources.
Before you know it, our 30th Annual Meeting will be taking place in Omaha, Nebraska. Plan to attend and be part of TFA history! Check the "Meetings" section for more information.
Have fun! Explore the site! Send us your ideas!

TOWNE HISTORY

JOHN 2 TOWNE, son of William, reportedly stayed in England. There is some question as to whether he had descendents - please email towne@allies.com if you have any information or believe you are descended through John.

ENGLAND TRIP UPDATE
Discussions about a possible trip to England were held at the annual meeting in Portsmouth in September. The costs associated with such a trip, as well as its length, were seen as issues that would need to be investigated. Ways of reducing costs and suggestions for timing of a trip will be presented in Omaha next fall. If a decision is made to move forward with this trip, the membership agreed that interested people would be asked to pay a nonrefundable deposit.
